Any man can
start a business but not everybody can be successful in the world of business.
In takes wisdom, patience, big heart and sound mind to run a business. Every
big business stared small and there were great sacrifices behind it. I grew up
seeing many local businesses fading out instead of fading into the big business
leagues; I then realised that many local business people keeps repeating
familiar mistakes that kills many business. Here are some of those mistakes
that new business owners should avoid.
1 Do not
fail to plan.
Failing to
plan is the first step of laziness in business and anything that is set upon
laziness fails at its inception. That is why many people can spend years trying
to run a failing business and end up shutting doors without fruits. So avoid
starting a business without planning.
2 Do not
make business money your pocket money.
Create a
reasonable salary for yourself and be extremely disciplined not to misuse
business finances; the money that belongs to the business should fulfil the
business purpose and plan (growing). If the business doesn’t invest in itself
but the pockets of the owner they are both (business and the owner) on the
highway to fail.
3 Avoid the
get rich quick mentality.
Many local
business owners make this mistake; gunning for over 100% profit. This is the
reason why many people would complain that people from outside comes in and
kill their businesses. If you buy something for 20 cents and selling it for 50
cents is way too unreasonable for you to come and complain that someone who has
a heart and respect for costumers is taking you out of business. Don’t complain
if people go passed you and travel far just to access good business sense.
Labour not to get rich quick; but allow yourself to gather you wealth little by
little.
4 Maintain
relationships
Relationship
with your associates and costumers is important; remember that in business
everyone is your best pal. So make sure that your friends are forever happy
with your services and the way you engage with them. Don’t leave your
associates with bitterness or give them reasons to blame or doubt you. There is
an old saying that says a costumer is always right; businesses that have cut
ties with the saying failed to keep the head above water.
5 Do not mix
business with pleasure.
Business is
business to you and your family and friends. Avoid making mistake of letting
your family and friend taking advantage of the business because it belongs to
you.
